It's Thanksgiving & I'm Thankful, by Eddie Matarazzo

That time of year to be thankful;

I am so thankful for my partner of twelve years Joel and my four Dachshunds, my home and most of all my family in Boston and my family here in Palm Springs (friends and co workers at both Hunters who are my family). I am so grateful to wake up every day and have a wonderful job to go to with the best customers anyone could ask for who I have grown close to over the last thirteen years. I love that I can exchange stories of our lives and actually know that they care and that I care about them. I am Thankful for a wonderful life, career, but most of all the people and several best friends in my life who make every year a blessing.

Keep your spirits elevated always!
Eddie, Bar Manager, Hunters Palm Springs

It's Thanksgiving & I'm Thankful, by Jen Seymour

IT'S THANKSGIVING AT HUNTERS PALM SPRINGS & I'M THANKFUL
It is that time of year when many people reflect upon what they are thankful for in their lives.  Here are my thoughts as this year comes to an end.    I am thankful for my family.  Although they are far away, I know they are only a phone call away.  For my Palm Springs family, who all keep me grounded each in their own way.  For my friends, old and new, who I know I can count on in times of need.  I am especially thankful for true friends.  For as I grow older, I have become witness to the scarcity of true unconditional friendship. I am thankful for past and present relationships, because I have learned something from all of them.
I am thankful for all the career opportunities that I have been given.  I am blessed to belong to a company where I consider everyone I work with a friend. Where mutual respect is commonplace and everyone works incredibly hard towards one common goal. A place where diversity is celebrated instead of repressed.
My hope for the future is to keep this thankful perspective, not just once a year, but on a daily basis.

IMAGINE, For Just 1 Minute.......

IMAGINE FOR JUST 1 MINUTE......
You work four, 12 hour shifts back to back, just leaving yourself barely enough time to sleep for a few hours before returning back to work, and to boot, working on the line faster than Lucy and Ethel on the candy conveyer belt for the entire 12 hour shift. Also, imagine that your work conditions include deafening sound levels and demanding bosses and clients, all on weekend hours on top of your already heavy weekday schedule.

Those are the conditions that our staff at Hunters PalmSprings endures on Pride weekend, all the time loving the work. I mean they LOVE their work! No complaints, just a hurried smile as they return for another shift.

Patrick and I do not have the words to express to each and every one how much we appreciate their everyday   hard work and dedication to providing excellence in the nightclub business, especially on weekends like Palm Springs Pride. All we can do is say thanks, thanks so much, from our hearts.

The performance of the entire staff, Jennifer the general manager and the volunteers that helped, truly makes our tag line at Hunters Nightclub come to life…….Spirits Elevated!

Have You Heard? IT'S HUGE!

HAVE YOU HEARD?
I T ' S  H U G E  !

Are YOU Invited to Hunter's
Magnificently Monstrous Anniversary Party?

Over the past thirty years, thousands of you now reading this have partied, danced, laughed and found love within the pulsating walls of Hunters in Elk Grove Village.
Test yourself with this quiz down Memory Lane, answering True or False to each item.
You'll need to get at least ONE correct in order to be invited to our mega-anniversary party.

1) True or False? On Friday, October 22, 1982, Mark Hunter, feeling very hip in his snazzy gold 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit convertible, was nervously speeding to the Grand Opening Very First Night Ever of Hunters when, still several blocks away, the entire transmission suddenly wrenched itself from the engine compartment and plummeted to the ground. Hoofing it the rest of the way, Mark prayed this was not a sign of opening night karma for his new dream venture: the first, biggest and best gay nightclub in the Chicago suburbs. However, wIth little more than word-of-mouth buzz, Hunters was absolutely packed on its first night open!

2) True or False? Although Hunters has hosted countless gala celebrations over the years, NOTHING has ever come even CLOSE to what their 30th Anniversary Party promises to be!

3) True or False? As extravagantly fabulous as this evening will be, it will only truly be memorable if YOU are there!

For all those who answered TRUE to at least one question above, read on for more details
…because YOU are IN, baby!

T I M E L I N E : Thursday, October 18, 2012 :
Enter the party at 8pm, first posing for complementary commemorative snapshots of you in our Club Photo Booth. An extensive food buffet
with an elaborate ice sculpture overlooking sumptuous hors d'oeuvres (including shrimp and decadent anniversary cake) is our gift to you…along with a fashionable cocktail bracelet (sure to become a treasured family heirloom),
good for three of our select adult beverages.

Ready now for some deep aural pleasure? Legendary cabaret performer Honey West belts out her best numbers till 9pm, after which Hunters "Can't Stop the Music" begins, taking you back to our '80s disco roots! Hosted by Chicago's documented "Best Female Impersonator" Miss Foozie and DJ'd by Ron G., the club will be a bitchen brick house of groovy disco duds to the max (costumes highly encouraged!). The treasure chest giveaway by Boxboy Rich includes tambourines, whistles, dance fans, flaggers, confetti, glow sticks, and more: special performances from the staff, a vintage video presentation of 30 years of Hunters patrons, ripped male dancers working magic with a a long, hard pole...and divas, divas and MORE divas, doing what they do best! As the night progresses, so do the music, the videos, the dancing…all the way up to this minute!

Although it is virtually impossible to package up all the millions of incredible memories, life-changing experiences and, most of all, phenomenal people I have absorbed over these past 30 years, opening Hunters Chicago has been, without a doubt, the pinnacle of my life. To fully commemorate this momentous milestone, your presence would truly be the icing on the cake.

Warmly,

HUNTERS, Cut From Halsted Market Days

Dear Friends, Family & Supporters,
It was just a few weeks ago that I expressed on Face Book, my sadness and disappointment with Special Events Management and Chicago Pride Fest about its decision to cut Hunters Chicago from the Chicago Pride Fest.

We were able to turn the bad news into a successful first annual “Suburban Pride” event on June 24, 2012 at Hunters Chicago. Today I have to break bad news once again. Special Events Management and the Halsted Street Market Days committee have decided to cut Hunters Chicago from the Halsted Market Days event as well. The reasons given were the same as the Chicago Pride Fest, space limitations. The protocol for the cut was, among other protocol, was that Hunters Chicago was not located on Halsted Street. Not to mention the disappointment, I find it ironic that over the last 30 years Hunters Chicago has donated time and money as well as support to worthy charities and businesses like Chicago House, the Center on Halsted and Howard Brown, all located on or near Halsted Street. This news of being cut at two events on Halsted Street finds me almost speechless, especially since other non-gay, non-Halsted businesses have had booths at both events.  Without the intention of alienating or offending our city friends and customers, Hunters Chicago will again “make lemonade out of lemons”.  On the weekend of August 11th and 12th Hunters Chicago will be donating 20% of all receipts to a local charity.
To reach Special Events Management call Joe Persfull at 773-868-3010
Thank you for your support,
Mark Hunter

JOIN OUR PRIDE PARTY at Hunters Chicago

Dear friends, family, loyal patrons and fans,
I am deeply
disappointed and saddened to bring you bad news. Hunters Chicago has been working very hard in the last year to be a part of the Chicago Pride Fest 2012 for the very first time. Thursday, one week before the Pride Fest, we were informed by the Special Events Management by email that, "The North Halsted Chamber has lost the right to have an open parking lot originally allocated for the festival to be used for this event.” Pride Fest has been downsized and our booth was cut from the event. Protocol for the cut was that Hunters Chicago was not located on Halsted Street and that we were a vendor booth and not a sponsor booth. Although this news is extremely disappointing, Hunters Chicago will not let this unfortunate situation brings us down, as someone once said, “we will make lemonade out of lemons”.

At The Heart of Hunters

AT THE HEART OF HUNTERS
At the heart of Hunters Nightclubs are not cocktails, drinks, music or videos.
At the heart of Hunters Nightclubs are people.
People are our soul, give us our spirit and character.
People breathe life into a room of barstools & glasses.
People bring Hunters alive, saturate it with its exclusive, uncommon and, yes,
exceptional personality.

I am so very proud of our people!
I’d like to take this moment to personally thank each and every member of our Hunters team,
both in Palm Springs and Chicago. Your ongoing daily efforts, hard work, dedication and continual
professionalism mirror your own pride, loyalty and devotion to our Hunters family.
After recently studying what’s behind daily operations at both locations, I feel certain that we
currently employ the strongest, most compassionate and caring staff that we’ve had for many,
many years.

At Hunters Palm Springs, manager Jennifer Seymour (also a co-owner)
deserves special mention
for working hard to bring the positive Hunters experience to every patron. Her entire team also
Patrick R., Rene G., Spike C., Thomas B., Tom W., Troy H., Troy T., and Wayne M. Jeff H.,
Jim G., John B., Jorge, Juan C., Kevin K.,
merits praise: Anthony B., Bob C., Brandon V., Chris W., Eddie M., Evette D., Heather K., Herbie M.,
Kristine W., Mary B., Miguel C., Mike D., Paris A.

In Chicago, our stellar manager Tom Cloutier, as well as the complete crew there, have also
certainly earned my grateful thanks and praise: Alex G., Amanda R., Bill L., Brad B., Brian A., Brook
A., Chris A., Emil B., Jack H., Jason C., Justine R., Matt L., Ron G., Russ E., Sean P., Steve Z., Tarah L.,
Trini G., Vince E.

On another note, you’ve noticed Hunters Nightclubs
has noticeably progressed this year in many
ways: publishing on our website our “Promise,” which strengthens the bond with our customers;
initiating a new tagline, “Spirits Elevated;” and affirming a renewed dedication from all of our staff
to every individual patron. These are all building blocks in our tower of success.

Finally, I must comment on something we all have marveled at: how extraordinary our patrons
are! Friendly, respectful, warm, caring, fun-loving...what an unexpected pleasure in the nightclub
industry! We are indebted and grateful to them, for we would never have survived a single night,
much less 30 years in Chicago and 13 years in Palm Springs, without each and every one of them.
All these relationships occurring on both sides of the bar have meshed to create, quite amazingly,
one big and very happy family.
Last but not least, I want to thank my partner in life, Patrick.
Without him nothing would be possible.

If you’ve seen me in person lately, you’ve definitely caught me smiling...and will continue to do so.
Why? Look in the mirror...it’s because of YOU, and because of all of our people.
I can only humbly thank you, as I embrace you all in my heart.

Warmly,
Mark Hunter

DMK Burger Bar

"TOP NOTCH" Burgers & Fries at DMK Burger Bar
2954 N. Sheffield Avenue Chicago, Illinois 773-360-8686 www.dmkburgerbar.com

MARK SAYS:
We had a big group of nine with us when we headed out to DMK Burger Bar around 5:00pm on Sunday afternoon. We were seated at a tall, communal table with barstools among a few other diners. The atmosphere was lively. So lively in fact that it was difficult having a conversation with the loud music and other diners trying to talk over the music. But the food and drinks were top notch and made up for the loud music. The burgers are handmade and cooked well done similar to The Five Guys burger only MUCH better. The burgers come with the most fabulous fries and homemade catsup. My fries were topped with parmesan cheese and truffle oil, yum!
The food and service was great.
I give the DMK Burger Bar a cool, hip, Chicago style:
Tips………. and……… Abs
       (young, great looking crowd)
(Friendly, proficient staff)………….and………….
By the way when we were leaving the line to get in was getting longer. Get there early for dinner!

PATRICK SAYS:
I want to say that DMK Burger Bar was a great burger spot especially with all the hype I heard before going but it just wasn't. The music was so loud you could not talk to the person sitting next to you. The burgers were just ok, they could only be ordered well done, making them tasteless. The saving grace with the food were the fries, they were seasoned with various spices and cheeses making them some of the best I've had. They also had the Best Sweet Potato Fries, my favorite. Their wide selection of bottled and draft beers, seemed very popular with the crowd. Overall it was a great afternoon with friends and coworkers but a zero as far as restraunts go. I give it three soggy fries.....

"WHY I LOVE HUNTERS"

"WHY I LOVE HUNTERS"
As soon as I walk in the door to begin my shift at HUNTERS PALM SPRINGS, I am immediately in a good space.  It doesn't matter the time of day just having the customers say hi and ask how everything is going puts me in a good mood.
Many times I have dreaded going to work but since starting here at Hunters two years ago this has never been the case .  Hunters is always a fun atmosphere and the staff are like a large family for many of us.  We try to work together as a team to keep the bar running smoothly.

We have great managers and upper management who are easy to work for.
So to sum it up the great customers and friendly hard working staff make Hunters bar a great place to be.  As a bartender or as a customer I always enjoy my time at Hunters. I usually enter the bar with a smile and leave laughing.
